Favorite Holiday

The Thanksgiving weekend is over - all the food, the good company of family, maybe a little travel here and there.  Now, we move on to the best of holidays!

Though there is a more practical side to it as a babyboomer, and the excitement is a little more tempered with slightly stiffer finances and being responsible (pshawww!), I still even to this day get all anxious and silly waiting out those four weeks until my most favorite of holidays!

With my children all grown, I don't spend nearly as much as in the past for anything under the tree.  Instead, my money goes into flights to both sides of the country.  It's funny how families get strewn all around the continent, and the globe, now.  My middle child is in the Navy, and has literally traveled to some far reaches of this planet.  When she is states-side, no matter what time of the year, I'm a happy camper.

Still, during the Christmas Holidays it is that much more special, for we've always made the Christmas holidays good in our household.  As youngsters, we would go caroling in our small Vermont neighborhood in the slowly falling snow, being given hot chocolate at some households.  Those were the days!  Now, we may just 'hang out' and cuddle in front of a warm fireplace.  No matter what, it's always family being with family.  The kids come home to us, or we go home to them.

So much preparation for just one day, some say.  But that's the fun of it... the preparation, the family traditions, just being together.   With all correctness aside, both political and aesthetic, the celebration of a most spiritual event - the birth of Jesus - is the greatest focus.

And yep...  the anticipation and wonderment of that neatly wrapped package under the tree in celebration of the most profound giving time of the year!

Happy Holidays!
